Bobby Mustol is a second-generation music professional who began classical training on trumpet and piano with his father, trumpeter and educator Joe Mustol. Bobby had the early good fortune to study with a number of celebrated musicians, including John Clyman (MGM), Tom Scott, and internationally renowned brass clinician Claude Gordon. At University High School in LA, he studied jazz and harmony with John Magruder (Don Ellis Orch). He performed with jazz ensembles at Fullerton, Cerritos, Cypress, CSF and LACC before joining the Don Ellis Orchestra followed by a stint with Bobby Caldwell. During this time he had the opportunity to record demos for Stan Kenton’s Creative World Series with a star-studded big band at the famed Gold Star Studios.
While studying Recording and Production with Doc Seigel at Charter Oaks Experimental College in Hollywood, Bobby continued live performances and arranging in LA and Las Vegas with a variety of artists including Rodney Dangerfield, Big Joe Turner, Willie Dixon, Coco Montoya, and others. He spent several instructive years as leader of a Top 40 club band. |
Looking to increase attendance and revitalize their events, Group Dynamics Inc. (Santa Monica) tapped Bobby to become their Artistic Director. For the next five years, he successfully produced events such as The Santa Barbara International Jazz Festival, The Orange County Register Jazz and Blues Festival, The Oakleaf Music Festival Jazz Series and others.
Since marrying and the birth of his son, Bobby stays closer to home, composing and producing projects in his West Los Angeles studio, while performing for select events around Southern California, including appearances at Disneyland with the Swingtown Orchestra.
Bobby is the music consultant and Vendor/Partner for Shorewood Realty, Pacific Unified Insurance, LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce, and Sunshine Rotary of Playa Del Rey. A Preferred Vendor at Manhattan C.C., Old Ranch C.C. and Westgate C.C., Bobby is the exclusive music contractor for Electra Cruise in Newport Beach, in partnership with expert DJ and musician, Peter Wade.
